We have been very busy behind the scenes, and we haven’t been updating you all on Medium so much. Couple of things we have been working on:

  1. Smart Contract
  2. Chainlink Integration (VRF + Keepers)
  3. Otter development and Market analysis.
  4. Partnerships (more to come!)

Due to this, we have done sneak-peaks #4, #5 and #6 on our Discord. Each sneak-peak we do we cover 1/1 special Otters, and represents a specific point in time of Ethereum. Below are our latest 3 sneak peaks which we missed on Medium!

“You Otters told me the EIP 2384 party supposed to be fire?” Flippening Otters: Sneak Peak #4 — Muir Glacier Otter

Muir Glacier Otter

Sneak Peak #4! This Flippening Otter has been frozen in time, but it is still part of The Flippening! It is also a 1/1 which represents the Muir Glacier hard fork! This fork was implemented on exact block 9,200,000 https://etherscan.io/block/9200000 to delay the Difficulty Bomb in Ethereum (known as the Ice Age). Ethereum’s “Difficulty Bomb” refers to a mechanism that, at a predefined block number, increases the difficulty level of puzzles in the Proof of Work mining algorithm resulting in longer than normal block times (and thus less ETH rewards for miners). This mechanism increases the difficulty exponentially over time and eventually leads to what is referred to as the “Ice Age” — that is, the chain becomes so difficult to mine that it grinds to a halt and stops producing blocks (freezes).

The Difficulty Bomb was originally put in place for a variety of reasons:

1. To act as a deterrent for miners who wish to continue mining the Ethereum 1.0 (Proof of Work) chain once the network moved fully to the Ethereum 2.0 (Proof of Stake) chain

2. To ensure that the core developers of Ethereum 1.0 are “forced” to upgrade the network via a hard fork (if only to delay the effects of the bomb) so that the network does not stagnate innovation-wise

“Touch him and you’re dead!” — Flippening Otters: Sneak Peak #5 — Serenity Otter

Serenity Otter

Sneak Peak #5! This Flippening Otter has been Sleeping since December 1st 2020! This Otter is known as “Serenity Otter” and is also a 1/1 AND starts our collection of our 2.0 Otters (2.0 Otters start from December 1st 2021 until present!).

The 4 Phases of Ethereum have been designed from the very beginning of the cryptocurrency and it follows this path:

1. Frontier: Beta Release of Ethereum (July 30th, 2015)

2. Homestead: First Production release of Ethereum

3. Metropolis (Byzantium & Constantinople): Hard Forks to fix previous elements.

4. Serenity: move from Proof-Of-Work (POW) to Proof-Of-Stake

Also popularly known as “ETH 2.0”, Serenity is the final stage of Ethereum, where it makes the final switch from Proof-of-work to Proof-of-stake. The network should be faster, more efficient, easier for beginners and more resilient against the closure of mining capacity. It also aims to solve the infamous Cryptocurrency Trilemma: A system that is highly scalable, yet highly secure while not compromising decentralization! This is a Trilemma which plagues the whole cryptospace, and hasn’t been solved yet by any cryptocurrency at the present moment, but Ethereum has aimed to fix this since the beginning of the whitepaper.

Serenity has been designed in 2 phases:
Phase 0: The Beacon Chain — https://beaconcha.in/block/0 -> Deployed and working flawlessly since then!
Phase 1: The Shard Chains
Phase 1.5: The “Docking” Phase
Phase 2: The Execution Layer

“I think, therefore I farm” — Flippening Otters Sneak Peak #6! — Homestead Otter

Homestead Otter

This Flippening Otter opened the Ceremony, known in Otter World as “Homestead”, on March 14th 2016 at 6:50 PM. On the exact Ethereum Block 1,150,000 (https://etherscan.io/block/1150000) the Flippening Otters started using their newly created Currency, ETH, as before they were only using the currency for testing purposes to see if it would work. Indeed it did! This Otter marks the start of the Species “Settler Otters” and as you can tell by his eyes, he’s been waiting for this moment for a long time now. He is literally DTF, slang in Otter World for Down To Farm!

Homestead marks the official Mainnet release of Ethereum on 2016. It’s basically what we know as Ethereum today, as the network was only in Beta only for testing purposes up to this point. Homestead included several protocol changes and a networking change that provided the ability to do further network upgrades. As explained above, the whole network of Ethereum has been planned in 4 phases since the very beginning by some very Wise Otters:

  1. Frontier — Beta Release of Ethereum (July 30th, 2015)
  2. Homestead — First Production release of Ethereum
  3. Metropolis (Byzantium & Constantinople) — Hard Forks to fix previous elements.
  4. Serenity — move from Proof-Of-Work (POW) to Proof-Of-Stake
